A few Gentle Reminders

Wedding Day Advice

A few gentle reminders for a calm, beautiful morning

Over the years, I’ve learned that the most memorable wedding days aren’t the ones that run perfectly to plan — they’re the ones where everyone feels present, joyful, and connected. Here are a few pieces of advice to help your day unfold smoothly and beautifully.

---

1. Don’t worry about the dress.

Your dress is meant to be lived in, loved in, and danced in. It’s okay if the hem touches the ground or picks up a little nature along the way — that’s part of its story. You’ll sit, walk, twirl, and celebrate in it, and that’s exactly how it should be. We’ll be careful, of course, but try not to fuss once you’re in it — this is your time to simply *be.*

2. Hair & makeup — plan for wiggle room.

Hair and makeup are the most common reasons timelines run behind, so please make sure everyone is ready according to your team’s schedule and recommendations. Encourage family and bridesmaids to be prompt and fully ready before it’s your turn — it makes all the difference in keeping the morning calm and fun.

3. Details & lay-flat styling.

I love starting the day by photographing your beautiful details — it sets the tone for the story. Please gather these items in a small box or tray before I arrive:

* Invitation suite & paper goods

* Rings (both)

* Jewelry, perfume, lipstick, cufflinks, or heirloom pieces

* Extra florals, ribbons, or fabric scraps from your florist

* Shoes steamed and ready, and your dress on a beautiful hanger

These little touches help me create cohesive, artful images that showcase your entire wedding aesthetic.

4. Keep your space photo-ready.

Things can get wild quickly with curling irons, garment bags, snacks, and coffee cups — all totally normal! Before I arrive, try to tuck away plastic wraps, luggage, and food containers so we can keep your space clean and calm. A tidy space photographs beautifully and helps everyone feel more relaxed.

5. The First Look.

I know traditions vary, but if your ceremony falls later in the day or around sunset, a first look can be incredibly valuable. It allows us to capture all those beautiful, emotional moments — your portraits, family formals, and wedding party photos — while the light is still soft and golden.

Good lighting is everything. It shapes the entire feel of your gallery, and those family formals especially deserve beautiful, cohesive light. This part of the day isn’t something I ever hand off to a second shooter — it’s one of the most important storytelling moments, and I take great pride in photographing it personally.

A first look also gives you both a quiet moment together before the rush of the evening — time to breathe, laugh, and take in the significance of what’s about to happen. It often ends up being one of the most heartfelt, grounding moments of the day.

6. The Romantics.

These are so important — to me, and to you.

Lighting is everything when it comes to capturing the magic between you two. I know it can feel hard to sneak away from the celebration for 30 to 45 minutes, but believe me — it’s worth it. This time gives you a quiet, intimate moment together while we chase that dreamy, golden light. These are the images that will hang on your walls for years to come — soft, timeless, and filled with emotion. Trust me, it’s always one of the most special parts of the day.

7. Build in breathing room.

A wedding day moves fast, and emotions run deep. Give yourself small pauses — even five quiet minutes alone before the ceremony — to breathe, reflect, and absorb the beauty of what’s unfolding. Those peaceful in-between moments often become some of your most treasured memories.

---

8. Trust your team.

You’ve chosen wonderful vendors who care deeply about your experience. Once the day begins, let go and trust the process. You’ve done all the planning — now it’s time to live it.

---

9. Stay hydrated & eat something.

It’s easy to forget when the excitement kicks in, but a light breakfast and plenty of water go a long way toward keeping your energy and emotions balanced all day.

---

10. Let joy lead.

Laugh when things go off-script, hug your people often, and soak up every imperfectly perfect second. This day is a living, breathing reflection of love — and that’s what makes it magic.
